Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Yucca Valley man Sunday for felony spouse abuse after they said he broke multiple bones in his girlfriend’s face and then tried to convince her that she broke them when she fainted and fell. Deputies were called to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs about noon on Friday by the victim’s mother who said that Jared Carter, 27, had argued with her daughter about 10 p.m. on May 20, at their home in the 56000 block of Navajo Trail in Yucca Valley. During the argument, the woman said she felt sick and fainted. When she woke up, she had a broken jaw, broken chin, broken nose, a broken clavicle, and two black eyes. Carter allegedly told the victim she sustained all the injuries when she fell, but doctors at the hospital said there was no way her injuries happened from a fall. The victim told deputies she didn’t remember what happened. Carter refused to meet with the deputies but he was eventually located about 2 p.m. Sunday in the 7100 block of Murray Lane where he was arrested for investigation of felony spouse abuse. Jared Carter booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
