YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED IN UPLAND CARJACKING, VEHICLE AND FOOT PURSUIT

A Yucca Valley man was arrested in Upland Sunday, accused of carjacking. According to the Upland Police Department, Leroy Lewis, 36, was in the 1400 block of West Foothill Boulevard when he dragged a man out of his car about 6:15 p.m. Sunday. Lewis then allegedly took off in the stolen car. Later in the evening, Upland police officers located the stolen vehicle about 8:40 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Campus Avenue in Upland. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the unidentified passenger jumped out of the car and fled on foot, while Lewis continued driving on Foothill Boulevard. After a brief vehicle pursuit, the car crashed at Memorial Park and Lewis fled the car, leading officers on a foot pursuit. Leroy Lewis was caught in the 1100 block of East Foothill Boulevard and arrested for investigation of carjacking, vehicle theft, and felony evading. Lewis was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $250,000. Upland police said the passenger, Jimmy Flores, 21, of Upland, was arrested for investigation of resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, and on a warrant for robbery.
