Yucca Valley Lady Trojans take 1st place in Desert Valley tourney after “Battle of the Ball”

The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan varsity basketball team took control of first place in the Desert Valley League scoring a 69-36 home victory over the third place 29 Palms Wildcats on Wednesday night in the annual Battle of the Ball contest. With the win the Yucca girls took a 5-1 overall series lead in the 6th annual Morongo Basin Rotary Clubs sponsored game.

Senior Cadence Tarrant playing her last game versus the desert rival scored a game high 27 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Junior CeCe Gilmore put together a great all around game scoring 11 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and nabbing 8 steals. Freshman Kamea Medina continues to improve, scoring 8 points off the bench while junior Tayla Monroy kicked in 7 points. Junior Tori Simpson and sophomore Teagan Moon each added 6 points while sophomore Lyrics Thompson and freshman Nahveah Baclig both chipped in 2 points.

The win upped the girls league record to 9-0 in league action and 18-4 overall with a road game at Coachella Valley HS on Friday next on the schedule. Tip off is set for 5:30pm

The final score was 69-36, with the Trojans coming out ahead in the home victory. The Trojans are now 9-0 in league, and the Ladycats are 6-3.
