The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team suffered a tough loss Friday night (December 6) losing in overtime 47-43 to Rancho Verde HS at the Redlands East Valley tournament.
The Yucca girls struggled to score most of the game falling behind 14-2 in a cold shooting first quarter. The squad rallied to take a 5 point lead in the fourth quarter but a couple of costly turnovers left Rancho Verde up 40-39 with 2 seconds left before sophomore Nahveah Baclig made 1 of 2 free throws to send the game into overtime. The Wildcats were able to stymie the Lady Trojans in the extra period to devote the victory.
Senior Tayla Monroy paced the team with 14 points while sophomore Kennedy Golden followed with 9 points and sophomore Kamea Medina added 8 points. The loss dropped the teams record to 4-3 with a 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning game against Aquinas HS in the final game of the tournament.
The squad then travels to Xavier Prep High School in Palm Desert today (December 9) for a 4pm matchup.
