Yucca Valley Lady Trojans finishes basketball season strong with CIF playoff game

The Yucca Valley Lady Trojans came up just a bit short of pulling off an upset, and were defeated by the 12th ranked Aquinas HS Falcons 65-62 in a CIF Division 2A first round playoff game Thursday night in front of a raucous crowd in Trojan Gym.

The Yucca girls took a 35-29 lead at the half on a buzzer beating 3 point basket by junior Tayla Monroy but the visiting Falcons amped up the defensive pressure outscoring the home team 21-13 in the third quarter to take a 50-48 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Trojans got within 1 point of the visitors three times in the final quarter but could never regain the lead as the Falcons moved on the second round.

Senior Cadence Tarrant was nearly unstoppable all night scoring a game high 33 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and going 11 for 11 from the free throw line in her final game in a Lady Trojan uniform. Monroy knocked down 14 points while sophomore Teagan Moon chipped in 7 points. Junior CeCe Gilmore was in foul trouble in the second half but still managed to get 4 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Lyrics Thompson and freshman Kamea Medina each added 2 points.

The team finishes the season with a 24-5 overall record.
