The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team scored a 59-53 win over low desert rival Xavier Prep High School yesterday afternoon (December 1) in a second round game at the Redlands East Valley High School tournament.
Both teams struggled to get going in the first half at times but Yucca heated up late in the second quarter and held a 26-13 at halftime. The Saints fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half but pulled within 5 points before the Lady Trojans went 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Senior Malia Ulery and junior Cadence Tarrant each scored a game high 22 points to lead the team. Seniors Ashley Lowe and Jaylie Schreiber both added 6 points and freshman Teagan Moon knocked down 3 points to round out the scoring.
The win improved the team’s record to 4-3 on the season with a third round tournament game against Moreno Valley HS scheduled for tip off at 430pm today (December 2) at Redlands East Valley High School.
