Wednesday night, the Yucca Valley High School wrestling team traveled to Coachella Valley High School. Coach Larry Giron said that wrestling with only half the wrestlers due to injury and illness, the Yucca Valley team led through the first seven matches, until Coachella Valley took the lead and won the match with four wins and four forfeits, resulting in a final score of 28-54.
Winning their matches for the varsity Trojans were Damian Vasquez, Anthony Stoltling, Trevor Scott, Andrew Reyes and Kian Koedel. Anthony Stoltling, Andrew Reyes and Kian Koedel each pinned their opponents for the win.
Next up for the Trojan Wrestling team is the annual Trojan War wrestling tournament, Saturday January 14. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.; 12 teams are expected to compete on four mats in the Yucca Valley High School gym.
Coming up in high school sports today, the Joshua Springs Lightning boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host San Jacinto Valley Academy at home in the Thunderdome. The girls’ game starts at 5 p.m.; the boys start at 6:30.
