YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL TO PARTICIPATE IN WALKOUT TO SUPPORT GUN REFORM

Yucca Valley High School will be one of hundreds of schools across the country that will take part in a 17-minute-long walkout. Here’s reporter Andrew Dieleman with more…

Today at 10 a.m., many students and teachers nationwide will walk out of their schools for 17 minutes. The walkout is both a nation-wide memorial for the 17 people killed at last-month’s shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, and a protest from students and teachers seeking federal gun reform. At last night’s MUSD meeting, superintendent Tom Baumgarten emphasized the need for student safety during the event. In an email to the parents of students, Yucca Valley High School principal Justin Monical stated that students expressing their first-amendment rights will be supported, but emphasized that students must return to class once the protest has concluded.
