YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TEAMS HONORED

Yucca Valley High School soccer teams were honored at an awards banquet Thursday, April 4. The boys’ soccer team had one of its best years ever, playing 17 games and scoring 52 goals with 718 steals, despite moving from Division 6 to Division 5. Junior Logan Vallo earned his second All-CIF Southern Section award and also was named the De Anza League’s Most Valuable Player, and Offensive Player of the Year. Vallo also broke the record for most goals scored by a junior, with 21 goals, all while earning a 4.16 GPA.

Other awards were given to Bradley Soares and Haemish O’Donnell, who were named to the DeAnza League first team; Victor Garcilazo and Josh Morrison, named to the DAL second team. Victor Garcilazo was named the coach’s player of the year. O’Donnell and Morrison were named Defensive players of the year; Soares, with a GPA of 4.33, was named scholar athlete of the year. And Robert Duran was awarded the Character and Commitment Award. Coach Tee Vallo said the boys work hard all season and he is very proud of them.

The Yucca Valley High School Girls Soccer team also named its award winners. Senior captain Chaylin Couzens was named DeAnza League Most Valuable Player, selected to the All-CIF team, and for the fourth time, she was named to the DeAnza League first team. Couzens also set the DeAnza League and Yucca Valley High School records for all-time leading goals scored, with 101, and the single season record for most goals scored with 31 and most assists, with 17. Couzens will continue her soccer career playing for California Baptist University on an athletic scholarship.

Also named to the All-CIF teams were Teresa Nava, on the second team, and Arianna Eigner, on the third team. Named to the DeAnza League teams were Eigner and Nava on the first team, and Amy Priest and Elizabeth Bushong on the second team.
