YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER RESULTS

Yucca Valley High School varsity boys’ varsity soccer game was rained out Thursday.

The junior varsity Trojans celebrated their first victory of the season against Banning Thursday night, despite the rain. Freshman Joseph Garcia scored the only goal of the game during the first half, shortly before the officials called the game due to weather conditions in the tenth minute of the second half—leaving the Trojans with a 1-0 win.

JV Coach Adan Mendoza said after the loss against Coachella Tuesday, the team came back strong and focused on communication and worked as a unit. Mendoza was especially impressed with player Joseph Garcia for scoring not just the first goal of the season, but his first goal ever; this is his first year of soccer.

“When Joseph first came on to the team, he asked if I thought he’d ever score. I told him his goal for the season was to make at least one. I think I can speak for the both of us when I say we didn’t expect him to reach that goal so soon.”

When asked how he felt about the victory, Garcia said, “It feels awesome!” While they enjoy their first win, the team is also preparing for the next game. Mendoza admits that it’ll be a tough match, but hopes his players keep up the momentum and pull through with another win.

The next game will take place at home, Tuesday, December 11, against Indio with junior varsity starting at 3:15 p.m. and varsity at 5 p.m.

Yucca Valley High School Girls Soccer had their first home game and won, 6-0.

Jolene Pessa said the weather was gloomy and wet but the girls really shined. Their ball control in these wet conditions allowed them to dominate the field.

Goals were scored by Rylee Nutter, Annie Hilderbrand, Macey DeCicco (two goals), and Nicole Powell (two goals).

The Yucca Valley girls’ junior varsity soccer won, 4-0.

Goals were scored by Skye Hansen, Leslie Rogel, Nicole Godoy, and Raine Swan.
