Two Yucca Valley High School seniors will share the honor this year of being named class valedictorian. Briauna Archer and Josiah Gouker are tied for the top spot and will be co-valedictorians. Zachary Napier has been named as salutatorian for the class of 2018. The remaining students in the class’s top 10 are Caitlin Rowe, Courtney Linzner, Caitlyn Ruggiero, Ayriel Bransford Fonseca, Madison Smith, Justin Stainbrook, and Zena Yakimow. In addition, the school has announced the 2018 graduates who have earned the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, for demonstrating mastery of the high school curriculum in various subject areas.
As noted by the California Department of Education, “The Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, established in 1997, provides recognition to public school graduates who have demonstrated mastery of the high school curriculum in various subject areas. The GSSMD is awarded jointly by the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. GSSMD eligibility requirements currently include a combination of course grades, results from assessments produced by private providers or local educational agencies, and/or qualifying Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment scores.”
