The 2022-23 Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team opened up the new season with a 60-47 win over Hesperia High School in a first round game in the Raincross Tournament at Poly HS in Riverside on Monday night (November 14.)
Jumping out to a 37-11 halftime lead the Yucca girls had to hold off a furious Scorpion second half rally to earn the hard fought victory.
Senior Malia Ulery knocked in a game high 24 points to go along with her 11 rebounds and 6 assists. She was followed by junior Cadence Tarrant’s strong effort scoring 22 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Sophomore Tayla Monroy knocked down two 3 point baskets for her 6 points while freshman Teagan Moon added 5 points in her varsity debut.
The Yucca Valley High School squad plays the tournament host Riverside Poly in a second round game tonight (November 15) at 630pm.
