From MUSD Facebook:
As many of you are aware Yucca Valley High School was the target of another potential threat today. Immediately after learning of the potential threat, the school began following all safety protocols. The school site was placed into a modified “Shelter in Place” allowing learning to continue while the threat was investigated.
In addition, there were extra Sheriff’s Department personnel on site throughout the day.
Recently there has been an epidemic of school threats nationwide that is breeding fear and frustration for educators, children and parents. Thousands of students across the state and nation are losing classroom teaching time leaving children scared and parents alarmed.
While the majority of the threats are hoaxes made by anonymous sources through social media, each one has to be investigated and taken seriously while schools simultaneously continue to educate students. The safety of our students and staff will always continue to be a top priority.
To reduce these incidences, we must all do our part. School District Administration and Law Enforcement will continue to work together taking all threats seriously and reacting quickly. We ask that students and parents take action and say something when you see or hear something that could be a danger to safety in the schools.
Previous Updates:
YVHS will remain in a “Shelter in Place” for the remainder of the school day, as the Sheriff’s Department and school staff continue to investigate the threat made to the school.
For clarification, the shelter in place is precautionary for students and is different than a complete campus lockdown. The decision is made based upon a number of variables including the validity of the threat made.
During a shelter in place, students will continue to move from class to class while the schedule of the day remains undisturbed. Students will not be allowed to make unnecessary movements about the campus. Students will remain in classes until each bell rings and then make the movement to the next class.
The school will provide an additional update at 4:00 pm today.
The Morongo Unified School District released this statement on their Facebook page this morning:
𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐃 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬:
Schools throughout Southern California have been on alert since Friday of last week. A number of schools in San Bernardino City, Redlands and Victorville were targets of social media threats about school shootings that were found to be unsubstantiated.
This morning at 7:30 AM, Yucca Valley High School was made aware of a post in a group chat on social media warning of a school shooting at YVHS today, October 3, 2022.
Yucca Valley High School has issued a shelter in place order for all students and staff while the threat is assessed. The district is working with local law enforcement to determine the validity and credibility of the threat.
If anyone has any information regarding the origin of threat or the person responsible for posting the threat, they are urged to contact school administration or the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
