The Yucca Valley High School golf team extended its consecutive winning streak to 18 matches Thursday when the Trojans defeated Rancho Mirage High School, 218-233.
Coach Jeff Evans said the Trojans finished the regular season with a 23-1 record. Outstanding performances were turned in Gauge Kime (42), Josh Pierce (43) and Luke Yakimow (43). Also playing well today were Larry Tyerman (45) and Marissa Lindley (45). Evans said he are ready for CIF play, “Although this portion of the season has come to an end the toughest part of the season still lies ahead of us. League Finals will be played next week and will determine individual placement into CIF and All-League honors. Every player on this team has made countless sacrifices to achieve our team success this year.”
Named Golfer of the Week is junior Trevor Carpenter. Carpenter showed great improvement in his golfing ability during the year due to his dedication and perseverance. With countless hours of practice and instruction, he learned what it takes to compete at the varsity level. Besides playing in qualifying and exhibition matches, he was introduced to Desert Valley League competition match play against Desert Hot Springs and Banning High Schools. In addition, he played in a match against Palm Springs High School where he carded is season low nine hole score of 51.
When asked what he enjoys about golf and being on the team, Carpenter said, “I enjoy the challenge of hitting tough shots, especially over water. I like spending time each day with my friends at golf practices and matches. I really enjoy this sport.”
