YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD PLACES FIRST IN TOURNAMENT; BOYS ARE THIRD

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan track and field Team travelled to San Jacinto High School for the Flying Tiger Invitational on Saturday, 7 March 2020. What started with a bit of dreary weather turned out to be a fantastic day on the track for the Trojans. The Trojans represented Yucca Valley well in all events with nearly 50 lifetime or seasonal bests on the day.

The Lady Trojans finished as the meet champions and the boys team finished third. In total, the team had 10 first place finishes, 9 second-place finishes, and 3 third-place finishes.

Individually, junior Loryn Brimhall earned the female athlete of the meet on the track. Brimhall won the 1600 meters, 3200 meters, and joined the winning 1600-meter relay team. Her time of 11:54.44 in the 3200 meters ranks fifth all-time in the history of Yucca Valley High School.

On the boys’ side, Kaden Koedel, the Desert Valley League leader in the throwing events, was a double meet champion winning both the shot put and the discus. His throw of 138’4” in the discus was a seasonal best for Koedel. Koedel was named the male field athlete of the meet.

Girls 400-meter relay: Haley McGinness, Coy Smith, Carly Brimhall, Jonae Johnson – 2nd Place;

Boys 400 meters: Alan Campos – 1st Place; Elijah Ocegueda – 2nd Place

Boys 800 meters: Elijah Ocegueda – 1st Place; Alan Campos – 2nd Place

Girls 800 meters: Cynthia Angeles – 3rd Place

Girls 100 meter hurdles: Carly Brimhall – 1st; Kennia Torres – 2nd Place

Girls 300 meter hurdles: Carly Brimhall – 1st Place  

The Trojans compete next at the Cougar Classic Invitational in Beaumont on March 21st.
