Yucca Valley High School Girls Tennis spent another day at League finals at Indian Wells yesterday. Congratulations to Mckenzi Monical and Rylie Rohr for taking the championship in doubles.
Coach Cindy Miller said in Singles, Mckayla Henry played Maritssa from Coachella Valley in the semi-finals and lost 1-6, 2-6. She then played for 3rd place and this was against Dayrin Lopez of Indio and she came up short in this match 2-6, 1-6. She finished fourth in singles.
In Doubles, Mckenzi Monical and Rylie Rohr played Vasquez and Munoz from Cathedral City in the semi-finals and won 6-2, 6-0. In the championship match, they played Soster and Banerjee from Twentynine Palms. This was a really great match. In the first set, Twentynine Palms jump out to a 3-0 lead, Yucca Valley came back to tie it up 3-3. The teams continued to go back and forth 5-4 Yucca Valley. Then it was all tied 6-6. They went to a tie breaker. Yucca Valley jumped out to a 4-1 lead but Twentynine Palms closed the gap. Then it was 5-5, 7-7 and then Yucca Valley closed out the match 9-7. That was just the first set. Here we go to the second set… Yucca Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Then it was 4-1, then 5-2. But the match was not over, Twentynine Palms girls fought back. Now it is 5-3, no, 5-4, wait 5-5, then Twentynine Palms took the lead 6-5. Yucca Valley girls were determined to take it to a tie breaker. Yes, that’s right another tie breaker 6-6. Yucca Valley took the lead again 4-1, then 5-2, 5-3. Here we go again, another nail biter. 29 palms girls tie it up 5-5. Then Mckenzi and Rylie put the Twentynine Palms girls away and won 7-5 in the tie breaker. The final set scores for the match was 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-5). This was a great match. Congratulations to Mckenzi Monical and Rylie Rohr for taking the championship in doubles. Good luck to both as they will advance to the next round of individual CIF on November 25.
