The Yucca Valley High School football program was suspended Friday (March 19) after a player and a coach tested positive for COVID-19 just before a scrimmage game against Indio. The Indio team bus was on its way to Yucca Valley and turned around to go home. The suspension includes all practices and events for the team. All players and staff who tested positive have been directed to self-isolate at home. Additionally, contact tracing and additional COVID testing are being conducted. Yucca Valley High School football coach, Jeremy Johnson told Z107.7 News that, “The players are disappointed, but we will find a way to keep them motivated until next Monday when we can start up again which will complete the 10 day protocol.” The next scheduled game following the 10-day protocol is Friday, April 2, against Cathedral City. It is unknown at this time if the school will be able to reschedule the March 26 matchup between Yucca Valley High School and Desert Hot Springs.
