YUCCA VALLEY GRANDMOTHER ACCUSED OF FELONY CHILD ABUSE

A Yucca Valley grandmother was arrested Saturday evening in the 6300 block of Hermosa Avenue when she threw a notebook at her toddler grandson. According to a Sheriff’s report, April Lopez, 49, had been drinking. When her young grandson threw a temper tantrum about 7 p.m., Lopez grabbed a paper notebook and threw it at the boy, hitting him in the face and causing a laceration. Witnesses called Sheriff’s deputies to document the assault. The report states Lopez admitted she did not mean to hurt the boy. After an investigation, April Lopez was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $100,000.
