Yucca Valley athlete Sequoia Barrera, 16, who had qualified to compete at the 2016 Kill Cliff Granite Games in St. Cloud, Minnesota, took first place in the fitness event over the weekend. Approximately 1,000 athletes from around the globe made the trip to Minnesota to compete in the Kill Cliff Granite Games for three days of world class fitness in action. Barrera worked her way up the leader board over the weekend by completing brutal workouts, believing in herself, and giving it her best. Yucca Valley residents, family, and friends raised over $2,500 in under 48 hours to help her get to the competition. There will be a victory celebration at CrossFit Yucca Valley, 7351 Hopi Trail, this evening at 6:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration.
