The Yucca Valley High School track team took 21 athletes to Las Vegas Friday to compete in the Dragon Invitational at Del Sol Academy. When it was over, the girls’ team took home the title and set two new school records. Competing with 19 other schools, the team of Emma Mills, Cynthia Angeles, Sara Mills, and Loryn Brimhall kicked off the meet by setting the 4X800 meter school record in 10:07.76, finishing first in the event. The trio of Mills, Brimhall, and Mills added Haley McGinnes to close out the meet, winning the 4X400 meters in a school record 4:10.58. The old record of 4:12.68 stood for 17 years. The boys team finished 10th overall with Elijah Ocegueda and Andy Tamayo leading the way. The two teamed up with Noah Baxter and Alan Campos to win the 4X800 Meters in 8:34.64. Ocegueda went on to win the 1600 meters in 4:38.10 and Tamayo finished second in the 3200 meters in 10:33.84. Up next for the Trojans will be the Desert Valley League preliminaries at Banning tomorrow, starting at 4 p.m.
