YUCCA VALLEY GIRLS’ SOCCER SPLITS GAMES AGAINST BANNING

The Yucca Valley varsity girls’ soccer game against Banning Wednesday was a close one, but the Trojan girls pulled it off and won 3-2.

Banning’s defense was holding strong and the Broncos were off to a to a 2-0 lead against Yucca Valley High School. The varsity girls came back in the second half to bring home the win with a final score of 3-2.

Rylee Nutter scored the first goal from a free kick outside the 18 and the  second goal was off a punt from goalie Shelbee Howe.

Coach Jolene Pessa said, “These girls were determined. Loryn Brimhall landed our third goal just in time to pull us ahead. Our team held strong after our third goal to remain on the offensive line, not allowing Banning another opportunity to come back. Way to go girls!”

Rylee Nutter scored two goals and Loryn Brimhall scored the other. Shelbee Howe is credited with an assist.

The Yucca Valley junior varsity girls’ soccer match ended in another 1-1 tie against Banning.

Coach Dawn Boatman said, “We were hoping the wind would help in scoring goals,  but the goal was scored against the wind, and was a nice pass from Cat Martinez to Yadira Mojica scoring in the bottom right corner of the goal. The girls also moved into space well anticipating the next play. We worked on sending the ball down the field for this game and they executed it multiple times during the game.”

The next junior varsity game is against Coachella at home at 3:15 p.m.
