Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer took on Coachella Valley in Coachella yesterday. The varsity lost 2-1; junior varsity lost 6-1.
Head Coach Jolene Pessa said the game was highly competitive and warrants recognition for good sportsmanship and teamwork. “Three yellow cards were given to the opposing team for foul play and our team maintained a level of play displaying skill along with positive and respectful attitudes. The girls really stepped up and played hard to tie up the game and hold it at 1-1 up to the last moments.”
The Arabs were able to get a second goal on us in the last 10 minutes of the game. “Goalie Shelbee Howe had her work cut out for her and was supported with some truly amazing saves from her defensive line. Our goal was scored by a breakaway from forward, Rylee Nutter, with a clean, solid shot on goal.”
The junior varsity game against Coachella Valley was a tough, high-pressure game. The junior varsity girls are learning, getting stronger and becoming more aware of the plays.
