The Yucca Valley High School soccer Lady Trojans took the field for the first time in a preseason game against Palm Springs High School. The Indians pulled ahead and took home the win with a score of 3-1.
Head Coach Jolene Pessa said, “We had the pleasure of participating in a preseason game against Palm Springs High School to get a jump start on our season to come. As each year begins we have new players rotating in with new talents to explore. The team worked hard and played well.”
Haley McGinness scored the only goal, with an assist by McKenna Larson. The girls held a tie game of 1-1, pushing into the last 15 minutes of the game. At the end, the Indians pulled ahead and take home the win with a score of 3-1.
Pessa said, “The ladies put up a good fight and walked away with new goals and ideas on how to improve our team strategy moving forward. We look forward to a successful season and hope to see you all in the stands.”
The varsity Lady Trojan’s next preseason game is Thursday, November 21, at 3:30 p.m. against Desert Christian Academy in Bermuda Dunes.
The Yucca Valley girls’ junior varsity soccer took a 3-0 loss.
Assistant Coach Dawn Boatman said, “Tonight was junior varsity’s first preseason game. They are a great bunch of girls, eager to learn, play hard and they respect each other. This is a solid JV team.”
Boatman said the first half started off strong in defense and had some great goalie saves. The girls were constantly putting pressure on the Indians. They had a couple break-aways and were looking up for the next best pass.
The next preseason game for junior varsity is against Barstow, at 3:15 p.m. on December 2, at Barstow High School.
