CIF playoff victories yesterday for both Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms girls’ basketball teams
The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team earned a tough CIF Division 3A first-round playoff win over the Temple City Rams by a 60-43 score on Thursday night in Trojan Gym. With the victory the team hits the road for their next game. A second-round playoff game at Torrance High School on Saturday night. The tip off time has yet to be announced.
Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley girls started the game slow offensively, but did put the clamps on the Rams’ offense, taking a 28-16 into the locker room at halftime. The Lady Trojans used a 11-0 third quarter run to open up a 42-25 lead to start the fourth quarter and finished the game by snuffing out a late Temple City rally to close the game.
Junior Sara Mills led the scoring with 19 points and four 3-point baskets. Senior Coy Smith was dominating, finishing with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman Malia Ulery added nine points while sophomore Chloe McNellie knocked down eight points and passed out seven assists. Junior Meagan Lowe came off the bench to add eight points and Maliah Rodriguez chipped in six points.
