The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team hosted last year’s Division 4A CIF finalist Cathedral City Tuesday night and fell 81-60 in a Desert Valley League game.
Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley girls led 32-24 late in the second quarter but the Lions went on a 15-0 run to end the half and took a 39-32 into halftime.
The Lady Trojans opened the third quarter hot and got close trailing 44-40 midway through the third period but couldn’t get any closer as Cathedral City’s outside shooting took over the game.
Sophomore Sara Mills scored 24 points for Yucca Valley, while junior Coy Smith added 16 and 11 rebounds. Senior Angie Reutgen poured in 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
The team travels to Desert Mirage on Thursday for their next contest.
