The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team hung tough for a half but eventually fell to the Desert Valley League-leading Cathedral City Lions, 61-40, last night in Cathedral City.
Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley girls jumped out to a 22-20 halftime lead using strong defense and timely shooting, but the Lions caught fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Trojans 22-10 to put the team in a hole from which they never recovered.
Senior Angie Reutgen paced the team with 16 points while junior Coy Smith added 12 points. Sophomore Sara Mills netted 10 points.
The girls travel to Claremont High School Saturday to play Duarte High School in the Glendora Titan Shootout, then return to Trojan Gym January 29 when they host Desert Mirage for Senior Night.
