Yucca Valley “ghost gun” seized during van search and arrests

Two convicted felons were arrested on suspicion of having a “ghost gun” in Yucca Valley.

On Thursday morning (August 15) around 4 a.m., a deputy from the Sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station conducted a security check on an occupied van parked near the intersection of Balsa Ave and Maki Ave in Yucca Valley. Deputies report finding Jesse Palacios, 29, and Bronte Granell, 32, on a bed in the van. Deputies determined that both Palacios and Granell were convicted felons, and Palacios was currently on parole.

Deputies conducted a probation search of the vehicle and say they found a loaded and unserialized 9mm Glock-style pistol with a high-capacity magazine. Unserialized, untraceable firearms are known as “ghost guns,” and are illegal. Deputies report that both Palacios and Granell denied ownership of the weapon.

Jesse Palacios and Bronte Granell were arrested on suspicion of being felons in possession of weapons and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. Palacios is being held without bail, Granell is being held on $30,000 bail.
