YUCCA VALLEY FUGITIVE ARRESTED THURSDAY

A Yucca Valley woman who was being sought for a fatal hit-and-run crash in February was arrested Thursday. About 2 a.m. February 28, Jerrod Cary, 32, of Yucca Valley, was walking southbound on Avalon Avenue just south of Sunnyslope Drive in Yucca Valley when he was hit by a 2007 gray Nissan Maxima, which was traveling northbound on Avalon. Following the collision, the driver did not stay at the scene. Cary was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he died at 3:25 a.m. The abandoned car, which had damage consistent with the crash, was located nearby. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies developed evidence which led them to suspect Cheryl Dvoracek, 27, was involved in the fatal hit-and-run. The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station listed Dvoracek on its “Fugitive Friday” Facebook page, and received a tip Thursday that she was at a home in the 8400 block of Amador Avenue in Yucca Valley. When deputies arrived about 2:30 p.m., they noticed a car was parked in the backyard and was running. When they knocked on the door, a man inside the house refused to open the door and left the room when he saw deputies were at the door. Deputies eventually forced entrance into the home and found Dvoracek and Eduardo Villegas, 39, hiding in the bedroom. Cheryl Dvoracek was arrested on her warrants for felony hit-and-run, transporting a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and transporting methamphetamine. Dvoracek was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with her bail set at $500,000. Eduardo Villegas was arrested for investigation of being an accessory after the fact, booked into West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $25,000. After being booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, both Villegas and Dvoracek were found to be concealing narcotics on their persons. Both were additionally charged with willfully bringing narcotics into a jail facility,
