The Yucca Valley High School Trojan Football team travelled to Desert Hot Springs Friday night. Head Coach JD Thompson said the Trojans won, 32-12.
Offensively, the Trojans logged 455 yds of offense. Braden Brimhall was 12-122 for 155 yards and Caleb Robinson led the running attack with 223 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Albert Montes Reyes and Jesse Meza led the Trojans with four and five catches respectively. The offensive line did a superb job all night creating running lanes and protecting the quarterback.
The defense caused three turnovers and had five sacks. The front seven played a tremendous ball game and the defensive backs did a great job executing the game plan.
Defensive standouts were linebacker Hayden Sherman, who was a disruptive force. Albert Montes Reyes and Jesse Meza continued to play well.
Makoa Kakalia was transported to the hospital with an injury to his back. He was released and is doing well without serious injury.
Thompson said he was most impressed with how the defensive line played. They controlled the line of scrimmage and did a great job containing their running game while creating a lot of pressure when they wanted to throw.
He added that he was disappointed in the amount of penalties the team had and over the lack of composure at the end of the game, but he said overall, it was an impressive victory and one of the team’s better performances this year.
