This correction to a story we aired yesterday about the Fourth of July fireworks celebration in Yucca Valley: The Town of Yucca Valley released this statement: “At this point, the fireworks event is not cancelled. Rather, the Town is evaluating all options on the celebration and ensuring any event that is presented is consistent with the direction from the State and County Health Officers.”
During Tuesday’s meeting, the council members discussed the difficulty of enforcing social distancing during the Fourth of July event, and the possibility of holding the fireworks during the Labor Day weekend or on Veterans Day. Sheriff’s Captain Lucas Niles told the council that the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station did not have the volunteers to staff the fireworks on the Fourth of July.
