Yucca Valley fire fighters have been taking a lot of cold showers recently, and not necessarily because they’re hot stuff. According to County Battalion Chief Mike Snow, the last gas bill for Yucca Valley Fire Station 41 had increased by 40 percent over the previous month. Fire officials determined there was a leak in the old rusty pipes coming from the gas meter at the street, to the fire house, and so the gas was turned off. Unfortunately for the fire fighters, the stations’ water heater and stove are fueled by gas, and so not only are they forced to take cold showers, but they can’t use the stove for cooking their meals, either. Snow said the Fire Department had to solicit bids to fix the gas leak, and added that the gas pipes should be fixed and operational by next Friday.
