Yucca Valley Family Creates Scholarship in Memory of Michael Ramos Jr.
Months after Yucca Valley High School student-athlete Michael Ramos Jr. was killed during an act of violence at a party in December of 2025, his parents returned to the school Wednesday night to honor his memory with a new scholarship program.
During Yucca Valley High School’s 59th Annual Senior Scholarships Program, Michael Ramos Jr.’s parents surprised three graduating seniors with scholarships created in their son’s name.
Michael Ramos Jr. was remembered Wednesday night not only as a football player, but as a young man known for his leadership, compassion, and dedication to others.

Before his death, Michael had been accepted to play college football as a running back at San Diego Mesa College. His number 13 jersey hangs on the gymnasium wall at Yucca Valley High School. The coaching staff has also asked that the number be retired in his honor.
His parents said the scholarship was created to continue Michael’s legacy by supporting students who reflect the same values he carried both on and off the field.
This year’s scholarship recipients were Adrian Altamirano, who received 13-hundred dollars, Aiden Shannon, who received 750 dollars, and Sergio Gomez, who received 550 dollars.
The amounts were chosen intentionally to honor Michael’s number 13 jersey.
During the scholarship ceremony in the high school gymnasium, Michael’s mother, Jessica Ramos, spoke about her son.
“He was a blessing not only to our family, but to everyone who had the privilege to know him. Michael embodied love, kindness, humor, strength, bravery, and a spirit that reflected God’s goodness.”
The Ramos family funded the scholarship this year and said they hope to continue awarding it each year in Michael’s memory.
