What a day for the Trojans cross country team at the 71st Annual Mt. SAC Invitational. Junior Elijah Ocegueda not only set a new personal best course record, he set the overall Yucca Valley High School record.
Coach Jay Stepp said Elijah took eight seconds off Jeff Larson’s school record, set in 2013, to cover the course in 15:30. He blasted to the front of the individual sweepstakes race of divisions 3, 4, and 5, clearing the first mile in 4:48. He ended up fifth overall out of 124 runners. He led the team to a ninth place finish out of 22 schools. Following Elijah was Andy Tamayo racing to a course personal record of 16:09, placing 19th.
The Lady Trojans also competed in the Individual Sweepstakes race for Divisions 3, 4, and 5. Cadenence Youngman raced to nearly 7-minute course personal record, covering the world-class course in 20:07, placing 19th out of 103 runners. She was followed by Sara Mills with her own personal record of 20:12, placing 23rd and Emma Mills placing 30th in 20:36.
