YUCCA VALLEY CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM DOMINATES LEAGUE

The Yucca Valley High School cross country team continued its domination over the Desert Valley League. The 11th ranked boys took home the team title by 19 points over Indio High School, scoring a mere 30 points to Indio’s 49. 

Leading a trio of 1st Team All-Leaguers was Elijah Ocegueda, (16:14) who won the MVP award with a 17-second victory over Indio’s Jesse Diaz.  

Andy Tamayo locked in a third place finish (16:44) and Alan Campos captured fifth in 16:51. Blake Stewart (17:12) and Marcelo Noble (17:50) took home 2nd Team All-League Honors by placing ninth and 12th respectively.

The girls brought home an individual MVP Title in the form of sophomore Cadence Youngman. She blistered Jazmin Angeles’ Yucca Valley High School course record set in 2017 by 50 seconds. Her time of 19:42 was eight seconds faster than teammate Emma Mills (19:50). Both girls were named to the 1st Team All-League.

Cynthia Angeles (23:43) was next in 24th, taking home honorable mention from the DVL.

The Trojans set 16 course records, collected five 1st Team All-League honors, two 2nd Team All-League, two honorable mentions, two league MVP’s and one team title. 

Up next, the boys’ team, along with Cadence Youngman and Emma Mills,  will compete in CIF Prelims on November 16, with a chance to move on to the finals on November 23.
