After voting to enact a moratorium on accepting any new short-term vacation rental applications, the Yucca Valley Town Council is seeking your input on new policies. Reporter Jef Harmatz tells about a series of upcoming public hearings.
At their November 2 meeting, the council voted in favor of the 45-day moratorium, with the acknowledgment that it would likely be extended for a longer period. The moratorium was designed to give the council, the Planning Commission, and town staff time to enact policy changes regarding short-term vacation rentals, whether through new laws or changes to zoning codes, both of which require input from the public. Council members have expressed optimism that new policies can be instituted by April. As part of this legislative process, the town will hold an initial public hearing, the first since the moratorium went into effect, on Tuesday, November 23, as part of the regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting. This meeting will be held at the Yucca Valley Community Center at 6 p.m.
