The Yucca Valley Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Friday at Twentynine Palms Hwy and Balsa Ave between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Michael Martin, 24, of Joshua Tree, was arrested for driving on a suspended license and booked into the Morongo Basin jail. David Shaub, 46, of Palm Springs, was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. While releasing Shaub’s vehicle to a licensed driver, Shaub’s passenger, Nathan Picco, 34, of Desert Hot Springs was found to have a felony warrant. During an arrest search, Picco was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Both Schaub and Picco were transported to the Morongo Basin Jail. For the night, 1,317 vehicles were screened; there were no DUI-Alcohol suspects arrested; one DUI-drug-impaired suspect was arrested; one suspect was arrested for illegal drugs possession-transportation for sales; six drivers were cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked; and six citations were issued. Sheriff’s sergeant Rick Millard said, “Yucca Valley Police will be conducting other DUI/drivers’ license checkpoints or DUI saturation patrols in the near future.”
