Wanda Stadum, the CEO of the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, was the guest on last Friday’s (October 29) Up-Close show, where she discussed how the group has been helping local businesses recover from the pandemic. Reporter Jef Harmatz recaps the interview.
The last year has posed unique challenges for local businesses in the high desert, and the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce has been using its resources to help them recover. Stadum discussed the Chamber’s work securing grants and helping to promote businesses in town that have been hit hard by closures, shortages, and pandemic chaos. She says that because Yucca Valley is now a destination, local businesses must be promoted to the people who are already here.
“We want people to shop, work, live, eat, and play in Yucca Valley. And that’s in the surrounding areas as well. We are intensifying on our local area. Put the money in your pocket, rather than in someone else’s pocket.” — Wanda Stadum, CEO, Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce
Speaking about “Grubstake Days,” Stadum explained the difficulties of putting on a safe event in 2021, and her optimism about a larger event in 2022.
