The Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce awarded its member of the year award to the Hi-Desert Water District on June 27 during the chamber’s installation and awards dinner at Hawk’s Landing golf course. The District received the award for obtaining more than $26 million in state and federal funding for the sewer project. Phase 1 of the sewer project began in January 2017 with the construction of the wastewater treatment and reclamation facility. The collection system is made up of over 70 miles of pipeline and 5,000 private property connections. The collection system is scheduled to be completed this fall, with private connections to begin in October. Two more phases of development and funding will take place in the coming years.
