YUCCA VALLEY BRAWL RESULTS IN ABORTED CHASE, ONE ARREST

A massive brawl in Yucca Valley Wednesday afternoon resulted in an arrest at gunpoint of a man who fled the scene and failed to yield to deputies. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Rick Millard, a construction worker at Sage Estates at the southern end of Sage Avenue called deputies about 2:30 p.m. to report that dozens of juveniles were gathering at the water tower to fight. Deputies responded in force, with lights and sirens, and the juveniles scattered, despite attempts by law enforcement to stop them and get identification. Millard said the juvenile officer went in pursuit of a vehicle which was speeding through the area and ignoring stop signs, but due to the presence of children in the area, called off the pursuit. However, the deputy later saw the same vehicle and driver, at Joshua Drive and Cholla Avenue, and initiated a felony traffic stop, at gunpoint. The driver, Alejandro Barreto, 19, of Yucca Valley, was arrested for investigation of felony failure to yield. Alejandro Barreto was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
