The Yucca Valley High School boys’ varsity soccer team tied Twentynine Palms High School, 1-1, in overtime. The Trojans held the ball for the majority of the match, but couldn’t score more goals tonight. Junior captain Carlos Rodriguez-Santos scored the only goal.
The player of the match went to Carlos Rodriguez-Santos for his leadership and effort. Mendoza said, “Our entire team played very well tonight, and we have seen much improvement on all aspects of our team. We look forward to playing an away game Friday versus Desert Hot Springs High School.”
The junior varsity game starts at 3:15 and varsity is at 5 p.m.
The Yucca Valley junior varsity Trojans protected their home against the cross-town rivals Twentynine Palms Wednesday.
At the end of second half JV finished with a 0-0 tie.
Mendoza said, “Our defense was great. We managed to maintain majority of the possession throughout the game, but just couldn’t put one in the net.” Mendoza added, “A big part of what we do is to develop these guys as players and young adults. I nominated Isaac Cardoza as player of the match for his leadership and great performance on and off the field. Isaac was also handed the captains band for the JV squad.”
