The Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer team played its first game of the season Thursday afternoon at home against Coachella Valley High School. The teams ended with an exciting 0-0 tie at overtime—a small victory for the school’s soccer program and a stepping stone to the anticipated success of the short season.
Junior Landon Gradilla, goalie, was named Player of the Match for his eight incredible goal stops.
The next game will be on Tuesday, March 30, at home against Banning High School, starting at 6 p.m.
“Overall, our boys played very hard tonight,” said head coach Jorge Rodriguez, who praised his four defensive players for their solid performance. “Every player left it all on the field tonight. Our student athletes are confident they can play with any team right now.”
Rodriguez said the tie bolstered the confidence of the team, after having only a few short weeks to practice and condition. “These guys are ready to take on any team right now.”
