Yucca Valley High School varsity boys’ soccer lost 4-1 to Coachella Valley High School.
Coach Jorge Rodriguez said, “We played our home opener against a very organized and seasoned team, but our Yucca boys played well and we have lots of areas to improve, The defense led by senior Daniel Goddard played well. Player of the match is sophomore striker/forward Carlos Rodriguez-Santos who scored our only goal.”
The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity Trojan boys’ soccer team opened the CIF league with a 4-0 loss against Coachella Valley Tuesday night.
Despite the loss, JV head Coach Adan Mendoza still considers the game a victory for the team, stating that junior held their ground in the later part of the game, only allowing one goal during the second half. Mendoza admits the team still has room to improve but praises the team overall for their effort against one of the season’s toughest matches, specifically naming JV goalie Landon Gradilla as the game’s MVP for keeping strong communication with the defense.
Mendoza is hopeful for the upcoming game against Banning this Thursday. “This game is going to really test us as a team and give us a better understanding of how we’ll do for the rest of the season. I’m confident we can come away with a win.”
