Yucca Valley High School Trojans boys’ soccer traveled away to Thermal on Wednesday to play against the Desert Mirage Rams.
Varsity suffered a tough 7-0 loss against last year’s division champions. The game’s full backs, sophomore Griffin Hilderbrand and junior Alexis Cortes were named player of the match for their leadership and effort.
“We played better and we are much improved,” said Coach George Rodriguez. “But we walk away with our heads held high, having played one of our best games of the season, although the final score reflects differently.”
Junior varsity lost 4-0, with two goals scored on them in the last five minutes of the game. Sophomore goalie Landon Gradilla was named player of the match with an astonishing 30 saves.
“We learned a lot from this game,” said JV Coach Adan Mendoza, “We knew Desert Mirage was going to be a difficult team to play but these guys didn’t let themselves get intimidated.”
The Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer team will be playing Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brehm Sports Park for their annual alumni game. Any interested players may contact Coach Adan at 760-898-4025 until Friday. The Trojans will then be on winter break, with their next CIF game on Wednesday, January 8, at home against Banning.
