YUCCA VALLEY BOYS’ BASKETBALL WINS HOME OPENER AGAINST BIG BEAR

In high school sports, the Yucca Valley High boys basketball team opened its season at home versus the Big Bear Bears. Coach Matt Jennings said the varsity team won 67-48, The JV team won 52-36.

Jennings said, “Varsity came out to a 24-0 lead and never let up. It was great to see them beginning to come together and play as one team.” 

Leading the team were Braden Brimhall with 13 points and seven rebounds; Jehu Jimenez with 13 points, three assists; Andre McGee with nine points, 15 rebounds.

The junior varsity team won 52-36.

The game was close at halftime but the Trojans really pulled away in the second half.

Leading the team were Demar Smith with 12 points, four assists; Aidan Gamboa had eight points and four rebounds; and Tua Kakalia, four points, six rebounds.

Both teams will compete in the Rancho Mirage Tipoff Classic November 19-23.
