In high school sports, the Yucca Valley High School boys basketball team traveled to Coachella Valley yesterday; all three teams won. Varsity won 77-51, with five players in double digit scoring: Braden Brimhall, 20 points; Bryce Mitchell, 15 points; Elijah Roy, 13 points; Luke Yakimow, 12 points; and Greg Sanchez, 11 points. Coach Matt Jennings said, “It was a total team effort that brought us this victory. It was great to see them come together and play as a team.”
Junior Varsity won, 76-38. Jehu Jimenez scored 14pts, 7 assists; Tayten Shartel- 12pts, 7 rebounds; Jacob Rideout, Jace Hudson- 11pts each. Coach Jon Price said, “The team led from the beginning and never let up. Defensively they had 21 steals. They are 8-0 in league and are in first place.”
And the frosh-soph team won, 42-25. Top scorers were David Jimenez with 11 points and six rebounds; Tua Kakalia with 10 points and nine rebounds; Demar Smith with seven points and six assists.
Coach Ernesto Gamboa said that the team came out a little sluggish but really came together and is proud of their effort. They are 7-0 in league play.
