YUCCA VALLEY BICYCLIST KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY LAST NIGHT

A bicyclist was killed last night, struck by a pick-up truck as he was crossing Highway 62 in Yucca Valley. According to the County Coroner, About 6:25 p.m., Timothy Settles, 54, of Yucca Valley was in the driveway of Triangle Liquor store, at Yucca Trail and the highway, waiting for a break in traffic to cross the highway to Bannock Trail. After a couple cars passed by, the bicyclist rode out from the curb into the number one lane, where he was hit by a white 2000 Dodge Ram truck, driven by Michael Jennings, 50, of Yucca Valley who was driving westbound on the highway. The impact threw Settles 50 feet down the highway. Bystanders attempted CPR, but responding paramedics pronounced Timothy Settles dead at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the collision.
