Twentynine Palms boys’ basketball lost a thriller to YuccaValley High School last night in Wildcat gymnasium. Coach Mike Schneider said after squandering a large lead for Twentynine Palms in the first half, the Wildcats and Trojans played neck-and-neck for two overtime periods. The final result was a score of 76-81, Trojans. This marks a 1-2 De Anza league record for the ’Cats. Leading scorers for Twentynine Palms were Alex Chavez with 27 points; Kyle Hope, 20 points; and Andrew Wilson, 10 points. No individual stats were provided by YuccaValleyHigh School.
The Yucca Valley High School Trojan soccer boys played Twentynine Palms last night and defeated the Wildcats 3-0. Coach Tee Vallo said injuries and starters in foul trouble in the first half had them playing five freshmen on the field most of the game. He said defense and senior keeper Victor Garcilazo held the Twentynine Palms offense to five shots and closed the game with the shut out, while the Trojan offense had 18 shots and three goals for the night. Senior Logan Vallo scored one goal; freshman Oscar Hernandez had one goal; freshman Abel Rodriguez, one goal and one assist; junior Haelan O’Donnell, one assist; and senior keeper Victor Garcilazo had three saves and the shut out.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team traveled to Twentynine Palms to take on the Lady Wildcats in De Anza League play. Coach Scott Phillips said the Lady Trojans dominated all aspects of the game including outshooting the Lady Wildcats 28-0 and gained the victory with a 2-0 score. Senior Amy Priest had one goal; freshman Alexia Missett, one goal, senior Teresa Nava, one assist; junior Karson Scaccinoce, one assist, and sophomore Nikole Cody had the shutout as goalie.
