Twentynine Palms High School and Yucca Valley High School are scheduled to exhibit their talents at the annual combined music concert taking place this year in the Twentynine Palms High School gym. On Thursday, February 26, the bands and choirs from both high schools will perform. Reporter Taylor Thacker spoke with Director and teach Michael Mayes about the concert…
“Some of the music I actually put together in April of last year. One piece I’m really excited about is a piece called ‘Zeus, King of the Gods.’ It’s definitely going to move people on an emotional level.” This year there is a guest appearance from TPHS Principal Justin Monical. “A little birdie told me that Mr. Monical was a great singer. I approached him at some point and finally got him to admit that he does a little bit of singing. He was really gracious with his time and his vocal efforts and we’re really excited about having him be a part of our performance on Thursday.” Mayes said the students have been working extremely hard. “The students have been very diligent in practicing every single day for the past nine weeks or so.” The combined concert starts at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:15 p.m. Admission is $5. Come out and see these talented high school students. “I would be willing to put on record that this is probably one of the best concerts that I’ve put on in my 15 years here. It’s going to be a great concert so this is the one to come to, you’re going to love it.”
