YUCCA MESA STRUCTURE FIRE SENDS UP LARGE PLUME OF SMOKE

Yucca Mesa and Joshua Tree firefighters, along with a water tender from Morongo Valley, were called to a structure fire about 6 p.m. Thursday. The 1,200 square-foot triple-wide mobile home was in a remote area on Ducor Avenue, off Security Drive just east of Yucca Mesa Road, on the border of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree. County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff said the unoccupied home had already burned to the ground by the time they arrived. Due to the rough condition of the road, Joshua Tree firefighters had to park their fire engine on Security Drive and were shuttled in to the fire’s location. Water availability was also an issue in fighting the fire; the water tender had to make multiple trips to a fire hydrant. The black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles in all directions. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be human caused.
