YUCCA MESA FIRE STATION SENDS CREW TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRE

The Yucca Mesa Fire Station, number 42, recently received an Office of Emergency, or OES, Type 1 Fire Engine. The OES engine is to be staffed for emergencies throughout California. Captain Zack Taylor and the crew of four have been sent to the SCU Lightning Complex Fire in Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus Counties, which has burned 230,000 acres. The SCU Lightning Complex fire is 20 separate fires burning in three zones, and is about 10 percent contained. The Yucca Mesa fire crew has been busy protecting homes and a historic observatory. High temperatures and extreme fire activity are making the firefight difficult and firefighters have been working 24 hours shifts. Crews are typically gone for 14 days, but can extend to 21 if needed. While the local crew is deployed, Station 42 & all local stations will continue to be fully staffed.
